The Blue Dog Beer Tavern Restaurant Review

By Bob Goldberg

Located in Sherman Oaks, Blue Dog Beer Tavern is a throwback to the small town tavern where good food and good friends come together and enjoy simple pleasures. Paul Scrivano, owner and long time Corvette aficionado opened the Blue Dog with one simple idea: Great Food, Great Prices and a small town feel. He nailed it!

When you walk into Blue Dog, the first thing you realize is that you are walking into a home. Yes, it was once a home that has been morphed into Paul’s vision. The feel of the restaurant is that of an old tavern in mid-America. The open floor plan and the incredible use of natural woods lends itself to a feeling of early Americana. At Blue Dog you really do feel right at home.

The menu. Shall we start with the beer or the food? Each is equally amazing. The portions are so generous and the
price even more so, that you wonder if he is in business to make money or to make friends! The line out the door explains that he is doing it right. My meal was a their flagship hamburger, “The Summit”, over 1/3lb of Angus beef with  bacon, mayo, cheese, fresh buns and a big fresh “on tap” beer. The burger was prepared “medium-well” and every bite was bliss. Washing it down with Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout on tap, I almost thought I was driving on Route 66 and pulled into a famous old hamburger joint.

Blue Dog is a restaurant that you can meet your friends at after a drive, stop in for lunch, watch a game at dinner or hang out at like a pub. The ambience is warm and inviting. The staff is very well trained and fun. The food is delicious and generous. The beer, well they have a lot of that. I highly recommend Blue Dog to everyone. You can’t go wrong. 5 out of 5!
