Jeff, how important is tire pressure and how do we maintain tires properly?
Jeff: I cannot tell you how many times we have picked up a car that was stranded or been called to an accident site due to improper tire maintenance. From exotics to passenger cars, if you want to avoid being stranded or even worse, in an accident, follow these steps to maintain your tires. It may just save your life.
* Check your tires once a week.
Check tire pressure and tires for: cuts, tears, and anything that might be stuck in tires, for example, nails.
* Always observe the recommended tire pressure from the manufacturer.
They do more R&D than anyone else. They know what best suits their tires.
* Check your tire wear.
Get down on your hands and knees and check for even tire wear. If your tires are not wearing properly, it may be due to low inflation or a bad alignment. Go to a reputable tire shop and have them checked.
* When you can, safely avoid objects and potholes in the road.
* Never put off getting new tires.
If you need them, get them. For the safety of yourself and your family as well as the rest of us on the road.
