An interesting day with temps. that weren't too low (~38-51 degrees) and off-again/on-again rain which made everything damp and cold and somewhat slick in some of the turns. :(
I ran the big track at Willow Springs with speedventures, and knew (sort of) that Marc was running the Streets of Willow with the speed-trial group.
I'll let Marc chime in here, if he wants, with his Streets experience, but I think I did OK. Unconfirmed (not timed, but based on the fact that I was faster than the fastest timed car in my run group which did run 1:37's/1:38's) laps of low 1:38's and high 1:37's were what I ran for my first time on the Big Willow track with the GT3 which, I'm told, ain't too shabby. Turn 8 entry speeds were 123mph, and turn 1 turn-in was probably close to top of third gear.
Metalsolid - I know you've run this track quite a bit on all sorts of tires - what type of times did you run?
I don't remember the "bump" going into the back stretch as being so large, but it seemed huge with the Porsche powering down there. Wow! It was like a roller coaster. The GT3 was perfect, with the primary draw back being grip (street tires - ran AD-07's) and a real "jittery" steering feel at high speeds on the front straight (which caused me to back out sooner than I would have liked too).
Met a guy named "Jet" with the cleanest 50K mile 2004 GT3 (just like mine - see picture); it has 20-30K track miles on it! He was nice, friendly and let me use his trailer to put stuff in for the rain.
The one picture I have right now shows the sky, my cars' stunt double, and two friends (one of which you guys know from karting - David):

Sounds like you had a great day. Based on times I saw posted for the S.D. Porsche Club day, I'd say your times were fast enough to run with the fast group. Congrats. :)

A couple more shots from the track's "official" photog, and to be completely transparent, someone has let me know that they have 1:40's as the time. Without official timing, who knows. Next time! :D

A friend of Todds said he ran a 1:23 in his '92 Skyline and another said he ran 1:29 in his Mcoupe with slicks. These are both hardcore track guys.

This event & date, or some other event? 1:23 is a TALL order....

Some other track date. I know the M guy would have been last year and I'm not sure about the Skyline guy but he also has a badass GTR but hasn't tracked it yet. These are what they say they ran but I have no comfirmation except their word.

Very well could be accurate, I'm not saying otherwise. But if it were on the same date, I'd say "no way". ;)

I think you need more blue tape on the car.
I don't mean to be an ass, but I never really got it; my buddy with the NSX in the pictures above gets $hit from me all the time for the same thing - it's not personal! :D

LOL! Now I know why I was getting back ordered on the blue tape at work. :D
I hope to make it up there some day in the Lawnmower with the newly rebuilt powerplant.

I'd like to see that lap. The late Paul Mumford did a high 1.21 in his SWCGT comp coupe..that's about as quick as a street based car will do around there with a pro driver.
A stock GT-3 ,with similar operator on street tires is probably in the 1.25-26 range imo

I think a stock GT3 on R-compounds wouldn't be too much quicker than a 1:30, but MetalSolid disagrees with that too.

Here we go again, Dan!
...and the fact I was there when he did a 1:28, holds no water? So here are some independent witnesses.

And he was taking it easy on the car. His "warm-up" lap was a 1:30 from pitlane!

Not this instance with Cort; I thought you mentioned somone else running a low 1:2x at some other time?
