The first F1 race of the year looms - just a little less than 6 weeks away! Australia is the site, SpeedTV likely the channel. Excited yet?!?!??!!? :D

I cannot tell you how excited I am... It's the only auto racing I really like anymore, and this season should be really good with all the changes...

I say we should have a small get together for at least one of the races?

One of the people on this board has a party for almost every race that is televised at a decent hour. I'm sure we'll have some type of event. :)

Oh really, that's cool, although most of the races are on Euro time and are at 4:30 AM, the first 3 races are usually late night Saturday night though...

Most of the get togethers are around 7:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m. I've never made the early ones, I just watch my TIVO when I awake.

Yeah, I tivo them all, practive, qualifying and the race... and anything else about F1... It's best to tivo it anyway so you can skip the commercials, otherwise some of those races get a little boring, but I think this season will not be so boring with all the new drivers on new teams and new regulations etc... I'm looking forward to it!

I can only hold 4 or 5 folks in my Calabasas hovel, but your welcome. TV is only 36" as well. The other guy Jon's referring to has a much better setup - theme food, well at least drinks, included (usually)!

I'm sure we'll work something out for at least a few of the races.... The non-european races will be best to have a get together and watch, the european races are all at 4:30 AM and unless we can watch a tivo'd version of it, early enought to not see the results, it will just be too early to have a "party"...

The first 2 races, Australia and Malaysian will probably be on a Saturday night, not exactly sure of the times just yet.... then, Canada will be a good one as it will be on around 10:00 AM, then again towards the end of the season in the Asian races....

I'm always happy to host it's just that very few want to drive out to where I like. Actually you and Mark are pretty close.

I agree with all of the above. I don't think another rookie will ever have a change to win a world championship as a rookie. I still feel like Lewis threw away the championship last year but that being said GO KIMI! :)

Ferrari were the today leaders in this weeks F1 test in Bahrain. Kimi had the fastest time 1m32.079. Second to Luca Badoer (team tester for Ferrari) a second behind Kimi. Toyota's Timo Glock was the quickest Toyota guy.
Unofficial Monday times from Bahrain:
1. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari, 1:32.079
2. Luca Badoer, Ferrari, 1:33.323
3. Timo Glock, Toyota, 1:33.418
4. Kamui Kobayashi, Toyota, 1:33.856

Looking forward to another exciting season starting with Melbourne Australia March 16th.

NO way a rookie will ever win the championship, Hamilton cracked under pressure in that last race, I heard he hit the wrong button on the steering wheel and that's why the car did what it did, all he had to do was drive conservatively... oh well... I thought he was a little cocky and did not want him to win. So there....:D

That being said, I was a Schumacher fan from the time he was on Benneton and so I am sticking with Ferrari and I guess it's gonna be Kimi.... And my wife has liked Alonso since before he was winning and still likes him, although this season is going to be a challenge for him...

We will see....

We can work it out I'm sure... I just posted the 2008 schedule, so we can figure out how to plan it... The first race is the most convenient for a get together, the second not too bad but kinda late, the bulk of the rest, are on euro time, so maybe we could tivo the race, go to VCR and then go to wherever we are going to go and watch it, but we have to make sure nobody tells us the results....

This thread is why I love this site! :)
The L train (L is Chicago right?) is why I hate my hotel room here at the W. :(

Lewis had many chances to clinch but I think he lost sight of the big picture? He's a talented driver and I'm sure he'll win more. As for Alonso, I think he's a punk and hope he has very few good results. Maybe a little humble pie will do him good. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Alonso may have a tude and be a "punk", but he earned it, he won two championships in a row and contended for a third last season. I'm not saying having an attitude is ok, but he has proven that he is a consistent winner. He will definitely get a reality check being on a team that won't be competing for the podium every race like he has enjoyed in the last few seasons, but he will work it out I think? Hamilton is definitely a surprise talent and will probably win many times and maybe even contend for the chamionship again. However, after the first race where he wouldn't speak to Peter Windsor on the grid before the race and had his "publicist" girl say NO... Then that continued to the next race and the next race... at that point, I turned into a Hamilton hater, not only because the rookie was beating the drivers I like, but he was the ONLY guy not giving a pre-race interview... Who the F*$k does he think he is? EVERY other driver gives an interview. 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher gave interviews every race, Alonso, Kimi, everybody... So that did it for me.... And, why do we have to see his dad 25 times a race, I don't give a rats ass about seeing his dad... Can anyone reading this pick out one relative of any other driver out of a crowd, NO, becuase they very very rarely show them, why do they insist on showing his dad so many times???

Sorry for the rant.:p, Now that being said, this season will be great! New rules, especially no traction control, will make it interesting. New drivers on new teams and the worse team, no has more funding and a veteran driver. Nelson Piquet and Timo Glock could be big surprises... I think Bourdais is gonna get smoked like most of the guys that come over from the US. Red Bull could be a surprise as well with the new car? Honda will do much better than last year....

That's it for now, can you tell I'm excited about the upcoming season? :D

There are two types of drivers, ones that can drive to the car's limit (typeB) and ones that drive to their own personal limit (typeA). With the latter, sometimes this driver's personal limit is above the car being driven -- with most drivers, it's not. Alonso is a "mad dog" typeA driver, often taking his F1 car way beyond it's limits. Shumey is a typeB driver, so is Hamilton. If you want to see how this year might play out, look at Japan 2007...

I don't remember what happened in Japan, was that the one that was raining and Alonso had a big solo crash?

That was Alonso all flustered because his younger, rookie teammate was smoking him and he lost his cool... That probably won't happen again, however, if the Renault absolutly sucks at the start of the season he will become desparate becuase he's not use to having a car that doesn't at least have a chance to qualify in the top 5 and have a shot to be on the podium... It will be interesting to see what happens. And can you imagine if Nelson Piquet pulls a Hamilton and does really good... as good or better than Alonso ...LOL... That would be ironic, since that's the reason he switched teams....
